Aspen Medical Care Transition to Aspen Valley Health Primary Care: FAQs

Aspen Medical Care is joining Aspen Valley Health Primary Care. Here’s what patients need to know.

What is happening?

Aspen Medical Care is transitioning its practice to Aspen Valley Health Primary Care. This means patients will continue receiving care locally, now as part of the Aspen Valley Health system. Our focus is ensuring patients experience a smooth transition and continued access to high-quality primary care.

Why is this change happening?

Aspen Medical Care (AMC) physicians have been members of the Aspen Valley Health (AVH) medical staff for many years. AMC has made the decision to officially join AVH. This transition allows physicians to continue serving the community while providing patients with more integrated access to Aspen Valley Health’s full network of care.

Will I still be able to see my doctor?

Yes. Dr. Bryan Gieszl and Dr. Mary Harris will continue caring for patients in the Roaring Fork Valley as part of Aspen Valley Health Primary Care.

Where will appointments take place?

Appointments will take place at Aspen Valley Health Primary Care locations in Aspen and Basalt:

  • Downtown Aspen (Obermeyer Place – the current AMC location will transition to AVH Primary Care in May)
  • Aspen Valley Health Medical Center (Aspen)
  • Midvalley location in Basalt
Is the Aspen Medical Care office in Basalt staying open?

No. The AMC Basalt location will close on April 30, 2026. Midvalley patients will be seen at Aspen Valley Health Primary Care’s Midvalley location on East Valley Road in Basalt starting May 6, 2026.

When can I schedule an appointment?

Scheduling opens April 1, 2026. First appointments begin May 6, 2026. Starting April 1, you can call Aspen Valley Health Primary Care at 970.279.4111 or make an appointment online via MyChart. If you do not have a MyChart account, you can find out more and sign up at aspenvalleyhealth.org/MyChart.

Will there still be walk-in hours?

Yes. Walk-in hours will continue Monday–Friday, 8:00–10:00 AM at the downtown Aspen location, starting Monday, May 18. The downtown location will be closed May 4–15 to refurbish the space with new technology to streamline care and to make it consistent with other AVH outpatient sites.

Will my medical records transfer?

Yes. AMC’s electronic medical records will be securely transferred to Aspen Valley Health over time.

  • May–August 2026: Records will be available upon request by contacting the AVH Medical Records Office at 970.544.1290 or mrfax@aspenvalleyhealth.org. Records will be accessible to the Aspen Valley Health Primary Care team to support continuity of care.
  • Starting August 2026:Aspen Medical Care records will be available in AVH’s MyChart patient portal. If you already have an AVH MyChart account, your records will be automatically linked to your account. If you do not have a MyChart account, please sign up today at aspenvalleyhealth.org/mychart. If you need help, please contact mychart@aspenvalleyhealth.org or 970.544.1556 for assistance with setup.
Do I need to do anything to transfer my records?

No action is required. If you have a MyChart account, your electronic records will automatically link once available.

Will I lose access to care during the transition?

No. Patients will continue to have access to care throughout the transition. Ensuring strong access to primary care is a top priority for Aspen Valley Health.

What are the benefits of this change?

Under the Aspen Valley Health Primary Care umbrella, patients will have seamless and enhanced access to care for acute and chronic conditions, preventive services and behavioral health—all which support a coordinated, whole-person approach to health. Patients will also benefit from access to the full Aspen Valley Health network, including specialties such as cardiology; dermatology; digestive health; ear, nose and throat care; endocrinology; laboratory services; ophthalmology; optometry; orthopedics; pain management; plastic and reconstructive services; pulmonary medicine; urology; and a full complement of rehabilitation and sports medicine services—all available close to home.

Who do I contact for AMC billing questions?

Aspen Medical Care will continue to manage billing for all visits that occur prior to May 1, 2026. For questions or to make a payment, please contact Aspen Medical Care directly at 970.920.0104.

What insurance plans are accepted?

Aspen Valley Health Primary Care accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid (for adults). Please check with your provider for specific coverage.
